Every time I go to my parents for the holidays, I have to check out their Christmas cards they receive from their friends and colleagues. Pictures of European vacations, parents celebrating their children's achievements, general status on life events; retirements, deaths, etc.
Our family would share in this tradition for a few years, mostly my mom's doing to keep up with the Jones' but eventually my dad suddenly took issue to it. "It's too braggy. Why do we need to do this?". Thus the tradition stopped.
There's the background.
Here's one I wrote from my little family to yours (sorry, Dad):
The year started off swell. Saurabh started a new job in January, I got promoted at my work. I also got a part time job doing brand ambassador work. It's busy work but it's very fun and interactive so it hardly feels like a real job. These career changes helped us save money for our new home.
I told myself I would run four 5k's this year. I did three, the last one in Tillamook which I had to walk after injuring my knee. Saurabh ran one with me and it was a great habit to pick up but while my knee is experiencing issues, it's walking and swimming for me.
Most exciting part of this year was purchasing our new home in Oregon City. With Saurabh's work in Tualatin and mine in SE Portland, we ran to the middle. I saw the house on Zillow and thought, it is above budget but I want to check it out. Seeing Saurabh take to the surroundings was worth it. They took our offer which was under the asking price. Score!
After putting in the offer, we went to Hawaii for ten days as a belated honeymoon. My company gave me a travel voucher for meeting sales goals for 2017 so it was a nice treat! We went snorkeling, hiking, boogie boarding, read some great books, drank mai tai's. We then came home and got ready to move into our new place in mid November.
Scrolling through my Instagram, it's been a good year. I thank God for the people in my life, His ability to heal through hard times, all the sights I've seen through nature, beach trips, Seattle trips, our careers which we have fought hard for, yummy food, nights that laughter was abundant.
As for 2019, it's a bit of blank slate. My little sister will be expecting a baby boy in May and I will be pulling auntie duty. Our travel goals will have to be on the modest side as we will need to make the most of our current dwelling and some home improvement projects.
Happy New Year! Here's some photos from 2018....
